Traveling to Cabo in October? Great idea! (But really, is going to Cabo ever a bad idea?)
Located on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, the Cabo region is made up of two towns – Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
It’s one of the most visited beach destinations for North American vacationers. And for good reason! (For starters, think world-class resorts, amazing beaches, great golf and fine farm-to-table restaurants.)
We’re frequent Cabo San Lucas travelers and go back every chance we get.
And even though we usually visit in December and January, we’ve also gone to Cabo in November and October, and our October trip was one of the best ever.
We think you’ll find our guide helpful when planning a trip to Los Cabos in October, so let’s dive right in!

Temperature in Cabo in October
First, let’s tackle the most asked question: What’s October weather in Cabo San Lucas like?
We have great news! October is considered by many to be the best time of year to visit Cabo – because it’s all about warm temps (in the water and outside) and sunny days.
You’ll find daily high temperatures averaging around 88 F (31 C) and rarely exceeding an average high of 95 F (35 C). So, it’s hot, but not sweltering – perfect for all those water-based activities (and beaching)!
When the sun sets, the average temperature in Cabo San Lucas in October cools down to a comfortable 70 to 75 F (21 C), making it ideal for dining alfresco or a nightime stroll.
Before going on your trip, you can check the forecasted Los Cabos weather in October for your dates on weather apps and sites like Accuweather, Weather Spark and Weather.com.
They’ll give you the most current up-to-date information.
Is Cabo humid in October?
You can expect some humidity in Cabo in October. But it’s way less sticky than in the summer months.
The average relative humidity decreases rapidly during the month, starting at 92% at the beginning of October and falling to 49% by the end of October.
October humidity levels tend to hover at around 60% to 70%.
(Humidity levels below 50% are generally considered comfortable, while levels above 85% are commonly classified as very humid.)
So the humidity isn’t as oppressive as it is in, say, August or September.
It’s comfortable enough to go exploring without feeling like you need to jump in the water to rinse off every few minutes. It feels like it does in Hawaii or the Caribbean in winter.
Does it rain in Cabo in October?
No, not usually.
Cabo’s rainy season is in summer, making October part of Cabo’s dry season and one of the driest months of the year.
You’re looking at a 12% chance of rain as the highest possibility, and that’s in early October. By the end of the month, that number drops to 4%.
The average rainfall is also very low at just 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) by the end of the month.
If you’re trying to avoid rainy days on your Cabo vacay, October is one of the best months to enjoy dry adventures.
It’s also worth mentioning that you may encounter cloudy days in the early part of October.
But the cloud cover decreases as the month goes on, making for lots of sunshine and clear skies in the later part of the month.
Is October hurricane season in Cabo?
Technically, yes, October is within Cabo’s hurricane season.
But don’t worry. The chances of encountering hurricanes or severe tropical storms in Los Cabos in October are pretty slim.
The peak of hurricane activity is in September, so things calm down significantly by the time October rolls around. Cabo is also well-prepared for storms, so there’s no need to be too concerned.
Water temperature in Cabo San Lucas in October
October is a sweet spot for water lovers in Cabo.
The sea has consistently warm temperatures that stay at a delightful 82 F (27 C). It’s like dipping into a perfectly heated pool.
So if snorkeling, diving or other super fun Cabo water activities are part of your vacation wish list, October is your perfect month!
Is October shoulder season in Cabo?
You bet! October is that prime time between the quieter off-peak season (summer) and the busy peak season (winter). This means fewer crowds and more elbow room at the restos and beaches.
Plus, you might score some sweet deals on accommodations and activities since it’s not peak tourist time.
(Oh, and did we mention that the Cabo weather in October is fantastic?)
Cabo San Lucas October events and festivities
Fiesta de Cabo San Lucas
Each year on October 18th, the town of Cabo San Lucas comes alive in a grand celebration in honor of its patron saint, St. Luke.
The downtown area transforms into a vibrant hub of parades, pulsating music, energetic dancing and pop-up food stalls.
For this special occasion, traffic takes a backseat for the day and the streets are closed to vehicle traffic, making way for the merriment that spills onto the streets.
Bisbee’s Black and Blue fishing tournament
The big event each October – especially if you love sportfishing – is the Bisbee’s Black and Blue tournament.
It’s the richest sportfishing tournament in the world, with a total prize pool exceeding a staggering $10 million annually in recent years.
The thrilling deep-sea fishing event attracts the world’s finest anglers to compete in the ultimate quest for the largest black and blue marlin.
It’s one big party in Cabo San Lucas during the week-long event.
You can join in the excitement and watch the teams measure their catches as they lift marlin weighing hundreds of pounds. And, of course, the bars are hopping in the evenings.
10 Best things to do in Cabo in October
What are the best things to do in Cabo San Lucas in October? Here’s our list of fave activities:
1) Hit the beaches
The beach is why you go to Cabo, isn’t it? So, take full advantage and dive into the crystal-clear ocean water of Cabo’s swimmable beaches.
One of our favorite ways of getting the most out of our holiday is with a day pass at some of Cabo’s beach clubs.
We try to take a full chill day at a beach club every time we go to Cabo to do this.
Everything is right there and provided for you, so your only job is to sit back, relax and enjoy! It’s the perfect sand-and-sea vacation day that’s always a guaranteed good time.
Even if you’re staying at a resort in Cabo with its own swimming beach, checking out some other beaches (like Playa Palmilla) and beach clubs (like El Ganzo Beach Club in San Jose del Cabo) is always fun.
2) See the Arch
Don’t miss the iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas, a natural rock formation that’s a must-see attraction. Get up close and personal with a boat tour to really appreciate its beauty.
Sail through the turquoise waters in Cabo San Lucas Bay, snap some incredible photos, spot the sea lions barking in the sun near the Arch and marvel at the dramatic blend of sea and stone around Land’s End (where the Arch is located).
It’s an unforgettable experience!
3) Sip cocktails by your hotel pool
Cabo is quite hot in October, especially at the beginning of the month.
One of the best ways to cool off is by lounging beside your hotel pool, taking the occasional dip and savoring refreshing cocktails.
Cabo San Lucas is a luxury hotel and resort mecca, so chances are that the grounds of your hotel offer some epic amenities that you’ll want to enjoy.
Just one example: One of our favorite luxury places to stay in Cabo is One&Only Palmilla. Read our One and Only Palmilla review and you’ll see why we love it!
4) Enjoy the best snorkeling and scuba diving!
As huge water enthusiasts who enjoy warmer waters, we’ve done lots of snorkeling and scuba diving in Cabo. And with an average sea temperature of 82 F (27 C), diving was a no-brainer for us when we were deciding what to do in Cabo in October.
Check out this 5-star rated, two-tank dive tour at Land’s End with Manta Scuba Diving.
You’ll see some amazing marine life!
We went diving with Manta to Cabo Pulmo (see #5 below) and were impressed with the crew’s outstanding service and attention.
After experiencing first-hand their professionalism and commitment to safety, we can easily see why this Land’s End tour is also so highly recommended.
5) Plan a Cabo Pulmo day trip
Cabo Pulmo, renowned for its warm waters and stunning marine life, is one of our most memorable Cabo day trips.
We try to go to Cabo Pulmo almost every time we go to Cabo.
As home to one of North America’s largest tropical reefs, Cabo Pulmo’s waters teem with amazing sea creatures like manta rays, sea turtles, sea lions, sharks and many different species of tropical fish.
We dove Cabo Pulmo in October (with Manta), and it was fabulous. We saw lots of sharks (mostly bull sharks and even a tiger shark!) – a definite highlight of our trip.
6) Snorkel with sea lions near Espiritu Santo Island
Espiritu Santo is a magical little place, considered by many the most beautiful island off the west coast of Mexico. It’s uninhabited, except for its thriving population of sea lions offshore.
You can snorkel with these playful creatures at nearby Los Islotes on a catamaran adventure to Espiritu Santo Island with Cabo Adventures.
You can also sail from Cabo San Lucas to Espiritu Santo Island with Baja Charters on this 5-star tour to Espiritu Santo Island.
It includes hotel pick-up to the catamaran’s departure point (the La Paz marina), breakfast, a chef-prepared lunch and a dinghy ride that takes you to Espiritu Santo Island to hike, swim, snorkel and SUP.
However you go, making a day trip to Espiritu Santo Island is one of the best and most unique things to do in Cabo!
7) Release baby sea turtles
We have two words for you – baby turtles! And one of the best things about October in Cabo San Lucas is the chance to experience this annual occurrence.
Hundreds of tiny and adorable baby sea turtles hatch from late July to November.
Then they try to scrabble their way across the sandy beach to the safety of the Pacific Ocean (past the watchful eyes of predatory vultures who are ready to pounce).
They’re mostly Olive Ridley turtles but there are also Leatherbacks, Hawksbill, Loggerheads and Green turtles in the area.
Several tours are available for observing and taking part in this must-do activity.
In particular, check out this informational Los Cabos turtle release eco-experience tour, as well as this turtle release conservation program tour operated by Rancho Carisuva, where you adopt your own baby turtle and help release it into the ocean.
8) Take a sunset cruise
There’s nothing like setting sail into the Cabo sunset on a scenic sunset cruise. Take in the views while you sip on your favorite drink, and watch the sun color the sky pink as it dips below the horizon.
It’s Cabo vacationing at its finest.
9) Go fishing in Cabo San Lucas
Fishing in Cabo in October is an ideal activity for those who love to fish.
Typically, boats head out into the Pacific Ocean in search of marlin, dorado, wahoo and yellowfin tuna (which are the prime catches in October).
This 5-star rated private fishing tour in Cabo San Lucas offers a full day of fishing, with everything included, from gear to bait for the fish, lunch and adult beverages.
10) Enjoy a spa day
What with all that activity, you’ll want to take some time out for a little pampering to recharge your batteries.
Cabo has many terrific spas like Waldorf Astoria’s Luna Y Mar and the very cheap (but very good) Eden’s Spa, so indulge!
What to pack for Cabo in October
If you’re wondering what to wear in Cabo in October, our advice is to pack light.
In general, when packing for a Cabo vacation in October, you’ll want to include the following.
- Light clothes: As Cabo is hot in October, opt for lightweight clothing. Think shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, sundresses and breathable skirts. Keep in mind that you can dress up for some restaurants in Cabo, so it’s a good idea to include something a little fancy for evening outings (a pretty sundress is perfect).
- Swimsuits: Remember to include your swimsuits, bikinis or swim trunks to enjoy Cabo’s beautiful beaches!
- Sun protection: Given the strong sun in October, ensure you pack high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat with a wide brim and a rashguard to avoid sunburn and protect against harmful UV rays.
- Beach necessities: You’ll want flip-flops and a packable beach bag for going to the beach.
- Footwear: For exploring beyond the beach, make sure you have comfortable walking shoes or sandals.
- Adventure gear: If you’re planning to snorkel, dive or kayak, remember to pack suitable gear like water shoes and/or snorkeling equipment.
- Tech and travel essentials: A portable charger and a waterproof Kindle are must-haves. If you’re visiting from outside the United States or Canada, you might also need an adapter.
- Medications and toiletries: Pack any prescription medications to last for the duration of your trip. And don’t forget to bring along necessary personal toiletries.
- Travel documentation: Finally, and critically – remember to bring your passport, travel insurance, hotel booking confirmations and any other requisite travel documents.
