About
Hola! We’re so glad you’ve popped in to Cabo Visitor – our personal insider guide to all the sun-drenched, taco-loving, ocean-splashing goodness Cabo has to offer!
start here

Who we are
We’re Janice and George Mucalov – travel journalists, blog publishers and former lawyers (beach beats boardroom!). We visit Los Cabos so often, it’s like our second home. We joke we know Cabo almost as well as we know each other!
We’ve written tons about the area for major U.S. and Canadian publications plus our award-winning luxury travel blog, Sand In My Suitcase.
We’ve even chatted about Cabo on KPAM Portland radio. And Janice once created the #1 best-selling iPhone travel app for Cabo. (It’s no longer on the market – but that’s another story!)
As for our favorite Cabo moments? Janice loves nothing more than SUPing from Medano Beach to the Arch, while George never misses a sunset – always beachside, always with a margarita in hand.
Uncovering Cabo’s secrets
Our quest at Cabo Visitor is to explore everything Cabo has to offer – and share our findings with you.
We won’t stop until we’ve eaten at every restaurant in Cabo San Lucas (and Los Cabos!), squished our toes into every sandy beach, checked out every hot resort, gone on every whale watching tour and sunset cruise, tried every spa – and more!
On second thought, hold on to your tacos. Maybe we won’t hit every bar, eatery and hotel.
We’re not spring-breakers, after all. And we have a soft spot for life’s luxe touches.
We also like sussing out authentic experiences, local mom-and-pop restos (where the Mexican food is a flavor explosion) and affordable boutique hotels (where you can still feel the Old Baja vibe).
Of course, it’s a tall task – this sun, sea and sand destination keeps evolving. New hotels spring up. (Hello Grand Velas Boutique, you beauty!) Trendy restaurants open. Fresh tours hit the scene. (Flyboarding, anyone?)
Staying on top of it all is a delicious challenge. But we’re having fun working toward our goal!

Where our Cabo articles have been published
We mentioned we don’t just live and breathe Cabo every chance we get – we were covering the destination long before launching our Cabo Visitor blog.
Here are some of our earlier magazine and newspaper articles on Cabo (from the heyday of print travel journalism):
- Grand Velas Raises the Bar in Los Cabos – North Shore News
- Down to an Art: Hotel El Ganzo – TravelAge West
- The Cape: Rooms With a View – TravelAge West
- Baja Moment – Interval World
- One & Only Palmilla – World Traveler
How did we discover Cabo?
It started with a photo of a beautiful quirky resort with thatched palapa roofs on Medano Beach – and a dream was born. Cabo was easy to reach for us (on the West Coast), so we booked a trip.
That was over 20 years ago.
We fell hard. (Yes, we bought a timeshare.)
Family joined us, then we began tacking on extra resort stays, and soon, Cabo became our happy place!
We’ve since traveled far and wide all over the world. But nothing beats waking up to a Cabo sunrise – and wondering what new adventures the day holds in this special place on the Sea of Cortez.

Professional affiliations
We enjoy learning from and sharing with others in the travel writing community.
Janice is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA).
And we’re both members of the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC).
Keeping it real
As travel media, we’re sometimes hosted with complimentary stays or services so we can review a hotel, restaurant or tour. If that’s the case, we’ll mention it in the Disclosure at the end of the post.
But a hosted stay doesn’t sway our opinions. If the margaritas are weak, the pool music’s blaring, or the service is off – you’ll hear about it.
And if a place really misses the mark? We simply won’t feature it on Cabo Visitor. After all, this guide is all about showcasing the best of Cabo!
