Welcome to the San Jose del Cabo Art Walk!
It’s a delightful evening of strolling the historic art district in the Mexican town of San Jose del Cabo – and one of the most fun and unique things to do in Los Cabos at night. Not to mention that it’s also free.
When planning your Cabo vacation, you won’t want to miss it!
San Jose Del Cabo Art Walk
Every Thursday evening between November and June, dozens of art galleries stay open until 9:00 pm so visitors and locals can enjoy this popular free cultural event.
This Art Walk, in fact, is one of the big differences between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
Many of the galleries are high-end fine art establishments.
Several also feature top Mexican works of art.
At the Cabo Art Walk, you can view everything from hand-painted pottery, Shona African sculptures, blown glass, contemporary oil paintings and handmade Chiapas textiles to jewelry.
You’ll even find sculptures made from 25-million-year-old amber.
Who knows, you might even find the perfect piece of art to take home as an authentic souvenir!
San Jose del Cabo Art District
The Gallery District covers several blocks in the heart of San Jose del Cabo.
Here, you’ll find many fine art galleries showcasing original paintings, prints, jewelry, sculptures and other art works by local, national and international artists.
They’re sprinkled around a variety of equally fine restaurants in San Jose del Cabo.
The Gallery District Association created the Art Walk event to attract visitors to explore the areas further away from San Jose del Cabo’s main square.
The cobbled streets of the Gallery District were upgraded to make them more walkable and buildings were refurbished to make them more attractive.
Since it started, the San Jose del Cabo Thursday Art Walk has become a smash success, growing in popularity each year.
The local government now closes down the streets to traffic each Thursday evening so they’re pedestrian-friendly.
Dancers and street performers provide entertainment. Many of the restaurants and bars have live music too.

Some Cabo art galleries we like
Casa Dahlia: Abstract landscapes, Naïve folk art, paintings and sculptures from some of Baja’s best contemporary artists
Desertica Art Gallery: Paintings of Frida Kahlo, pottery, sculptures and other unique art works by Mexican artists
El Armario: Cute little combination art gallery and coffee shop, a few blocks from the center of San Jose del Cabo
Frank Arnold Gallery: Dramatic oil paintings and cast bronze sculptures by Frank Arnold
Galeria Corsica: Museum-quality art, including sculptures of the chubby little Timoteo figure we first saw in PV on its Art Walk
Galeria de Ida Victoria: Paintings, sculptures, prints and photography by established and emerging contemporary artists from Mexico and around the world
Ivan Guaderrama Art Gallery: Contemporary art gallery focusing on expressions of faith, with paintings, glass objects and welding works
Muvezi Gallery: Stone sculptures by Shona artists from Zimbabwe
Patricia Mendoza Art Gallery: Contemporary art by some of Mexico’s top artists
The Los Cabos Art Walk is loads of fun. How can you beat viewing art with a complimentary glass of wine or margarita in hand?
(It’s similar to the free Art Walk in Puerto Vallarta, held on Wednesday evenings in winter, which we’ve also enjoyed.)
Each year when we visit Cabo for sun-and-sand family reunions, we make a point of hitting the Art Walk in San Jose Del Cabo, followed by dinner in town.
It’s a great little day trip from Cabo San Lucas – or should we say “half-day, late afternoon trip”?
What to know if you go
Be sure to make dinner reservations if you plan to eat out afterwards in town. The restaurants book up well in advance on Thursday evenings.
